Chronology

A female Afghanistan veteran with a mysterious relationship with her dead best friend from the army confronts her Vietnam vet grandfather at the family’s ancient lake house. Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris previously starred together in Gone Baby. Gone (2007).. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. This is a story about how we deal with the loss of loved ones – past or future – which is of course the subject of many movies when you think about it. The way this happens in MDFZ is surprising, and what actually happened stays in the middle for almost the entire duration. This is much more than a movie about American veterans, which may be an initial distraction for non-American viewers. It made me think a lot about what was going on in my personal life and it really calmed me down. I sincerely hope that the move will also receive proper distribution in Europe. The reception it received here at a Dutch film festival seems promising.
