Chronology

Benoît finds himself in debt and once again has to ask his rich parents for help. His plan to get money: Make them think he’s marrying his model friend Emily. When Emily cancels on the way to the airport, Benoit decides to invite her loud-mouthed Uber driver Fiona instead.

Read all. The movie was so simplistic and vulgar that it almost felt like an American comedy. I can see an American remake in the future.

Not this one

This was quite refreshing for a French comedy, though not my kind. French comedies usually start funny and die suddenly serious before the end. No one has a hidden face — Benoît remains awkward and shy from start to finish.

His brothers are greedy and pure evil

Fake Girlfriend has no social graces from start to finish. The parents are just the standard rich and confused couple you see in most French comedies. Their arc was completely predictable in such movies, so they were at least interesting.

His future will be the standard Sunday night movie on French television

However, I’m glad I have an unlimited movie pass because the movie ticket prices are so high that I would be unhappy to spend a lot of money on this.
