After 20 years away, Odysseus decides to return

The king has finally returned home, but since he left to fight in the Trojan War, much has changed in his kingdom. It was the third time that Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche appeared together in a film.

They previously worked together on The English Patient and Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights

Aimed at immersing the viewer in the multifactorial pain and suffering of Penelope and Odysseus as Odysseus returns home to Ithaca, this documentary systematically explores the challenges faced by many soldiers. Encountering return from active duty, including PTSD and other mental health issues, reintegration into previous life with family and society, flashbacks of pain experienced and suffered, and resulting irreversible internal change.

The return is fueled by a great cast so that the audience can experience this rollercoaster ride that takes the two main characters to great heights, thanks to the unique and extraordinary perseverance of the latter Penelope and Odysseus during this difficult period in their lives. .

Fiennes brings a unique style of portraying suffering to this work – a great extension of his amazing skills in The Spider and End of the Pain and Agony

In fact, the two are quite distant for most of the build-up, which only makes the catharsis all the more powerful in what is otherwise the most intense, thriller-like later part of an otherwise slower-paced film. Binoche is the perfect choice for Penelope because the viewer can be tricked into feeling and hoping that the two will meet again, as they were close during The English Patient, and Pasolini uses this to heighten the tension in this work for those.
